In large part due to the massive amount of Fantasy and history fiction that I’ve been reading the last couple of months, this has made me crave to read a heavy duty scholarly (some people call it dry-reading) history book. King Alfonso VIII of Castile: Government, Family, and War has completely fulfilled this itch for me! This is a really good history book.

This book is a compendium of many historians, some of which I know and have ready many of their works. Known to history as the lead the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa. This book details the reign of Alfonso VIII of Castile. Arguably one of greatest kings of medieval Spain, this great history book goes into detail on how’s Alfonso’s reign ended up shifting Castile as the head of Christian Christendom in medieval Spain, politically and militarily.
